Northern State - Cowboy Man

Cowboy Man

Oh, nobody knows-
Why he's wearing those casual clothes wherever he goes
Horses and biks are the things that he likes
Everyday's a vacation and I wanna know why
Oh nobody knows
He drives his big car around his ranch is cool as can be
It's only 50 bucks a gallon get the slurpee for free
And oh- nobody knows

It seems we need him to be-
Why do we need him to be-
Yeah we still need him to be
Why do we need him to be?

I saw him talking out of the side of his mouth
And I caught him looking out of the side of his eyes
He's a cowboy man- or a boy next door-
Or maybe even the leader of the free world.

It seems we need him to be- why do we need him to be?
Just like a friend of your dad's just like you and me?
Can't we aim a little higher find ourselves a better liar?
Save face with a straight face- how did we get here in the first place?

Oh- nobody knows.

Country club reality- I suppose
The grass is greener- the sun's out today
The oil is clean it's the American way
And oh- nobody knows.

It seems we need him to be-
Why do we need him to be-
Yeah we still need him to be
Why do we need him to be?

But I saw him talking out of the side of his mouth
Someone's feeding him the lines and I figured it out
He's a cowboy man with his mama's hands
He's got the world tied up in his father's plans
And oh- nobody knows.

Cause we need him to be- yeah we still need him to be
Relaxed and easy-going, cool, calm and carefree
Can't we aim a little higher- shift the focus, flip the script,
tip the scales, skip the record, break the cycle, trip the wire?

Before he rode off into the setting sun
They smiled when they thought of all the things that they'd done-
And if it could be him- then why not me?
Nobody knows.
